Zsolt Koroknai visual artist's exhibition

Ozone Blue Sky

2025. 10. 09. – 2025. 11. 28.

The paradox, found in the title of this conceptual exhibition, refers to the contradictions of our world and its multiple layers of meaning. The blue sky is associated with boundlessness and cloudlessness, while ozone (which has a bluish tint in large quantities) is a toxic gas formed as a modification of oxygen, yet it has strong cleansing power and, as part of the stratosphere, is capable of absorbing some of the ultraviolet radiation. The infinity of the blue sky and the accompanying Széki skirt model Koroknai’s maternal heritage, who worked as a folk costume designer (Margit Kascsák). With its distinctive colours and twirling movements, the Széki skirt and folk dance are not only linked to the past, but also to the present and an expanded time horizon as well. Through Koroknai’s mother, he is also able to connect to the cultural heritage of the Etyek Workshop, as part of the artist’s active life is captured in a photograph taken in the early 1990s, in which the famous Etyek sculptor and dynasty founder, Zeusz (i.e. Lajos Csákvári Nagy), having breakfast with Koroknai’s mother on the terrace of their lakeside holiday home. The photo appears in the exhibition in animated form and as an installation reconstructed with original objects, accompanied by a gesture of performativity, so that the two deceased artist friends appear together at a table in infinity and a special spatial dimension.
