The style of paintings in the early collection of the Lăzarea Cultural and Art Centre was inspired by the spirit of the Nagybánya heritage. Apart from the fact that artists of the Nagybánya Colony had also worked in Lăzarea, most commentators point to the fact that the environment was a natural source of inspiration for this trend: “…close to the spirit of Nagybánya, the surroundings of the village provided the basis for the colours and forms of the artists working here (…) Landscape as a genre was the obvious choice of expression.” For the artists in Lăzarea, the fascination with nature remained constant, while the creative process was expanded with new genres and new forms of expression, as can be observed in the contemporary approach of the Túlsó P’Art group and later of the participants of the KORKÉP art camp. “The camp, named KORKÉP, was characterised by modern creative work without genre constraints, and in a sense it was just as closely connected to the local community and the environment of Lăzarea as its predecessors.” At the same time, the spirit of the place, the fascination with nature that is eternal, remains a reference point for the artists who have recently participated in the camps. According to the above, the material of the exhibition selected from the Lăzarea collection draws equally and simultaneously on the retrospective and contemporary identities of the works, based on the paradox of the relativity of simultaneity.
