exhibition of Szilárd Zsolt Csóka and Levente Herman painters

Hybrid Reality

2024. 10. 31. – 2024. 11. 29.

The meeting point of the works of the two Marosvásárhely (Târgu Mures) painters is the most ancient genre of painting, the portrait. For years, Zsolt Szilárd Csóka has been preoccupied with the elusiveness of reality, the possibility or impossibility of transcription. To address this philosophical question, the artist has developed a special technical procedure that reveals the absurd reality of the portrait, revealing its hitherto unknown layers. The painter constructs a strange, hybrid reality for himself, in which the concrete sphere of the senses comes into contact with another reality that feeds off it. Levente Herman, wanted to relate to the paintings of his younger painter friend and looked back on his career of more than a quarter of a century, he selected some pieces of his series Sketches for a Private Army, made in 2006, which were never shown in Hungary. The terrifying, almost horror-like, wrecked faces, sometimes with blurred eyes or even without mouths, appear as faceless faces or frightening gazes, ghosts of an unknown power, the representatives of a hybrid reality.
